Ace Combat X – Skies of Deception
This is my 1st attempt at a review, so, please feel free to pick holes in it. All you reviewers please give advice/guidance!!
I thought long and hard about choosing a flying game for my PSP, all I can say is – Thank my lucky stars that I chose this (the alternative was Afterburner – Black Falcon)
Anyway Ace Combat X is flight combat game that leans slightly more towards the flight simulation genre than say Afterburner. By this I mean that pulling down on the analog stick means your plane goes up, push up on the analog stick and you go down – I’m sure you’ve go the idea by now.
In the campaign mode you follow a story where you basically have to liberate the country of Aurelia from the brutal oppression of the Leasath forces.
You take the role of an ace fighter pilot in the border defence air force – The Southern Cross.
At the start of the game you start off with the F-4 Phantom fighter bomber, however as you progress you soon earn enough money to buy other planes and upgrades such as weapons, engines, armour and different wing shapes.
It soon becomes evident that you have to choose both your aircraft and weapons loadout carefully as this will directly effect how or if you can complete the mission. (trial and error needed – good thing in my book).
The aircraft also have their own distinct handling characteristics, so are very manouverable and ideally suited to air to air missions, although maybe not so good for air to ground missions.
I almost forgot to say, but you can take different paths in the game which will affect the outcome, although you can still finish the game.
Missions - some very easy and some infuriatingly hard.
Make your own mind up folks, but I reckon the graphics are pretty top notch for such a detailed and fast moving game.
I personally give this game 9.5 out of 10, maybe because I love flying games and maybe because it was my 1st PSP game.
Do you want a PSP flying game? Buy this and I don’t think you will be disappointed.
